A Body Fat Monitors (body fat scale) is not the same as the typical bathroom scales we used to have at home thought they much look alike. However, body fat monitor shows not only the pounds you lose or gain it also provides the percentage of your body fat and muscle mass. It is very necessary to track the changes especially for those who those who are on a weight reducing diet and started active physical exercises. A body fat monitor is useful when your body composition changes without weight loss (when you are increasing muscles mass) so you can make some changes in your diet and exercise. But let’s get to know how body fat monitor works.
Body fat monitors use the principle of Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). The point is that electrical current does through fat mass slower than through the muscle mass. It doesn’t mean, of course, that you are going to suffer from high voltage electrical charge. The electrical current passing through your body tissues is small and absolutely harmless. The resistance of body tissues is measured. Then the scale uses the special formula to calculate the percentage of your body fat. The measurements are not a hundred percent accurate precise results. There are some factors which have strong impact on the results of the measurements. Such factors as body temperature, bogy type, level of hydration and also recent exercise can influence the figures you see on the screen. Sweaty or wet feet can screw the results as well! But even if you know that the results are not accurate, you should keep on working and making further progress in you exercises. Just gauge your progress.
So now, when you know how body fat monitor works, try to measure yourself at about the same time of day, don’t do it right after your physical activity, eat and drink the same amount an do it in the place with approximately stable temperature.
